Parañaque City places 10 areas in Barangay Baclaran under 3-day calibrated lockdown


STARTING today, the usage of quarantine passes is suspended in some areas in Barangay Baclaran, Parañaque City, and that only front liners are allowed to go out from their houses.


This move came after parts of the city underwent a lockdown earlier today at 6 AM due to a high record of COVID-19 cases in the area. The lockdown meantime is set to be lifted on May 23.


According to Mayor Edwin Olivarez, only the areas who received recommendations from the barangay health officers and the city health department based on the result of the community- based testing conducted by the epidemiology and surveillance unit will undergo the said lockdown.


It can be noted the said areas are all from Zone 4 in Barangay Baclaran.


Areas that will undergo community lockdown are Bagong Sikat, Bagong Lipunan, Bagong Pag-Asa, Bagong Ilog, E. Rodriguez, Bagong Buhay, Bagong Silang, Dimasalang Extension, Mabuhay at 12 de Junio.


According to an official from the barangay, their area is densely populated and is closely interconnected where the deadly virus can easily spread.


Based on the latest data from Parañaque City Health Office, they recorded at least 649 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 42 of which died while 35 already recovered.


Barangay Baclaran meantime recorded 21 confirmed cases of COVID-19.


Under the calibrated lockdown, all establishments such as banks, stores, gasoline stations, money remittance centers, and supermarkets are to remain closed.


Meantime, individuals who just recently been confirmed infected with the virus are already isolated from the city’s quarantine facility.


Mass testing is also conducted in the area especially that for individuals having contact with the confirmed patients.


The city aims to finish the tests within the three- day duration of the lockdown.



On the other hand, Parañaque City gave an assurance that while on lockdown, affected residents will receive aid from the local government.


It is estimated that the affected areas in Baranggay Baclaran have over 4, 000 residents.
