HOUSE Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano announced that they are dropping the deliberations for House Bill 6730, which seeks to grant the embattled media network ABS-CBN an interim franchise valid until October 31, 2020.
When the Tuesday session started, the lawmakers called for more than an hour break and discussed the franchise issue in a caucus.
It can be recalled that last week, Cayetano sponsored the provisional franchise bill and passed it on second reading in one day.
The said move sparked questions from legal luminaries and even from co-lawmakers of the speaker saying it was a blatant violation of the constitution.
With this, ACT- CIS Rep. Eric Go Yap, one of the authors of House Resolution No. 853 seeking an investigation on the alleged violations of ABS-CBN Corporation of its legislative franchise.
Yap noted the importance of a thorough investigation of the alleged violations of the embattled network.
Meanwhile, Cayetano is yet to announce when the next hearing of the House Committee on Legislative Franchises will be held.
The panel has so far only held one hearing on the ABS-CBN franchise last March 10.
There are more than 11 bills pending before the committee pushing for the renewal.
