CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella justified that the continuing increase of COVID-19 cases in the city are expected following the ongoing contract tracing and massive testings conducted and that the rising number is something that Cebuanos should not worry about.
Labella disclosed that 90% of these positive cases are asymptomatic and are now transferred to their respective barangay isolation centers to prevent the spread of the disease.
Meanwhile, the strategic mass testing for Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City officially kicked-off, May 06.
The move is seen to aid future decisions and policies in the possible transition from enhanced community quarantine to general community quarantine.
Labella also issued Executive Order No. 75 that focuses on institutionalizing the Balik Buhay Project and the implementation of strategic community testing in the bout for COVID-19 in Cebu City.
Around 20,363 households from 80 barangays in the city are to undergo rapid mass testing as part of the Balik Buhay Project.
Since this is a rapid antibody-based diagnostic test (RDT) testing, blood is extracted as samples. These blood samples are then taken to testing centers and results are yielded in 24-48 hours.
Those who will render positive in the rapid testing will then undergo confirmatory testing via real-time – polymerase chain reaction testing using swab samples.
Amidst over a thousand confirmed positive COVID-19 cases recorded in the city, Labella appealed to the public to stay at home, obey health protocols, and most of all pray to the Most High.
